Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is a complete medical system that can be used to treat various conditions ranging from pain, anxiety, depression, infertility, allergies, insomnia to the flu. Acupuncture has been practiced thousands of years with clinically proven results that are recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). In modern times, acupuncture is often used as an adjunctive modality in supporting modern medicine or to relief the side effects of modern medicine; such as the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in cancer patients. Acupuncture is also great for rehabilitation support in post stroke patients, increasing athletic performances, treating sexual dysfunctions, and simply maintaining a well being of the body. Acupuncture can be a relaxing and restful healing experience for you. Call or book online for your appointment!
Facial Rejuvenation:
Facial Rejuvenation is all about beauty from the inside out. Facial acupuncture can help you look younger, more vibrant, and promote better health too. Acupuncture needles are not only placed on the face, but on the body as well. The body needles harmonize the internal organ functions while the facial needles brighten, tighten, and rejuvenate the face. Facial rejuvenation can minimize fine lines, clear up facial complexions, tighten facial muscles, bring a more youthful appearance to the face, and build collagen. Facial rejuvenation performed by a certified facial rejuvenation acupuncturist is truly beauty from within, without harmful chemicals!
Herbal Medicine:
Herbal medicine is the use of natural substances formulated together to provide therapeutic effects in treating various conditions. Herbal medicine can be used both externally and internally for therapeutic effects. The herbs used are mostly plant based, some are minerals, while others can be derived from animal products. Herbal medicine can be taken in decoction, granule, tea pill, tincture, or even in capsule forms. At Petson Chan Acupuncture, we work with KamWo Herbal Pharmacy to provide herb formulas that are free of pesticides and heavy metals. Rest assured that only quality medicinal herbs are used. Even though it is rare that we prescribe herbs derived from animal products, please let us know if you do not want them in your formula. We can prescribe alternatives.
Tui Na:
Tui Na sometimes also referred to as “medical massage therapy” can help promote blood and fluid circulation and relax tight muscles. The words “Tui” and “Na”, literally means to “Push” and “Pull”. These push and pull techniques use acupressure to stimulate the body’s acupuncture points to produce healing effects. It is great for frozen shoulders, sciatic pain, back pain, and breaking up adhesions. Tui Na can be a great alternative to those who are needle sensitive and have musculoskeletal problems. Tui Na can be a very effective and relaxing modality for treating pain and is a great complement to an acupuncture treatment. Ask your practitioner if Tui Na can benefit your condition.
Cupping:
Cupping is done by applying gentle suction with glass cups or plastic cups to a certain area of the body to promote healing and blood circulation. It is great for relaxing tight muscles and breaking up adhesions. Cupping can be done with massage oils or treatment liniments with a “sliding cup” technique; where the cups are slid across the body’s surface gently in a massage fashion. Red to dark red marks are left behind on the body after cupping which usually resolves in a few days. Cupping was made more well known recently by Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston when they sported cupping marks on their backs. Since cupping can leave temporary red marks on the body, please advise your practitioner if this is not okay for you. Your practitioner will devise an alternative effective treatment for you.
Guasha:
Guasha sometimes referred to as “scraping” or “coining” is a technique where a smooth rounded tool is applied on the body with massage oil or treatment liniment in a repetitive massaging motion to increase blood circulation. It can feel like a deep tissue massage. Guasha is great for promoting blood circulation and breaking up adhesions to treat pain. After the treatment, red marks are left behind on the skin that looks very “raw”, but should not be painful. The redness goes away in a few days. Since guasha can leave temporary red marks on the body, please advise your practitioner if this is not okay for you. Your practitioner will devise an alternative effective treatment for you.
Moxibustion:
Moxibustion also known as “moxa” is the practice of burning an herb called mugwort over acupuncture points for therapeutic purposes. Mugwort or “Ai Ye” is a Chinese medicinal herb used in formulas for the purpose of treating pain and bleeding disorders. It can be found in many gynecological herbal formulas. But when it is used externally, it can be used for treating joint pain, back pain, abdominal pain, and stopping heavy menstrual bleeding.
